佐藤恭子（さとうきょうこ）
ジャズサクソフォニスト、作・編曲家。
兵庫県出身。横浜国立大学在学中にアルトサックスとジャズを始める。大学時代は“横浜国立大学モダン･ジャズ･研究会”と“早稲田大学ハイ･ソサエティ・ジャズ・オーケストラ”に所属。 バークリー音楽大学及びロータリー財団から奨学金を獲得し、大学卒業後に渡米、バークリー音楽大学に留学する。バンドリーダー、作編曲家として評価され、”トシコ・アキヨシ・アワード“を、演奏家として”ウッドウィンド・デパートメント・アワード“を受賞し、JVCジャズフェスティバルを含む数々のジャズフェスティバルに出演。元Woody Herman Big Bandのリードトロンボーン奏者・名アレンジャーのフィル・ウィルソンにそのメロディセンスを絶賛される。
2005年には韓国SONYよりCDリリースしたジャズバンド”Prelude”の初代アレンジャーを務めた。また、シンガーのアダム・ジョセフによるR&B, Neo Soulのユニットをサポート。（メンバーにはビヨンセのサポートドラマー、ニッキ・ガレスピー等も在籍）。
同大学を卒業後、NYに拠点を移しNY及びボストンを中心に演奏活動及び、インストラクター、アレンジ提供等で活躍。2007年に自身のアルバムがグラミー賞ノミネートにされたクリスチャン・スコットや、ゲイリーバートングループの ルーカス・カーティスなどをはじめ、数多くの第一線のミュージシャンと共演をかさねる。
2006年夏東京に拠点を移し、現在に至る。自己のカルテット及び東京でメンバー新たに再結成した佐藤恭子リトルジャズオーケストラ、鈴木良雄(b)Generation Gapでの活動のほか、クラブDJ、ダンスチームRepoll:FX等とのコラボレーションなど、ジャンルに捉われず幅広く活躍。その他、木村由紀夫(ds)、宮之上貴昭(g)、鈴木勲(b)等、日本を代表するジャズミュージシャンとのセッション、レコーディング、作編曲提供、また、フリーのインストラクターとして各地でレッスンやクリニックなども行う。
2008年3月、アルバム“ZERO”をFreakish Recordsより発表。今夏にはRoutine Recordsの新レーベルPRAVDAより、小林径・DJ.Tomiの共同プロデュースによる”nation of multiverse”がリリース予定。

- Kyoko started playing the alto saxophone when she entered Yokohama National University. Although she was an Education Major, she took some music classes and studied the basic theory of classical music. Also, she participated in the jazz club activity at the University and learned jazz theory and how to play the alto saxophone on her own. Later she began to take private lessons with Atsushi Ikeda, one of the most famous jazz saxophonists in Japan.
- When she was a third year student she passed an audition for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra Education Program (directed by Wynton Marsalis) in Japan, and was able to participate in the workshop and take some private lessons with LCJO members during their tour in Yokohama, Japan.
- This great experience helped her make up her mind to become a professional musician. While still a university student, she started to play in many gigs, festivals, and events around Tokyo and Yokohama.
- She received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts from Yokohama National University. After her graduation, she entered Berklee College of Music as the Berklee scholarship student, also supported by the Rotary Foundation (Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship).
- At Berklee, she was a jazz composition major and mainly studied composition and arranging under the tutelage of such great teachers as Ted Pease, Greg Hopkins, and Phil Wilson (Grammy nominee). Also, she studied saxophone with Frank Tiberi (leader of the Woddy Herman Big Band), George Garzone and Shannon LeClaire, performance with Dave Santoro, Ed Tomassi, and Hal Crook, and conducting with Valerie Taylor. She had the chance to play and write a lot of music for numerous gigs, recording sessions, recitals, and various types of the bands in and outside of the school. Furthermore, she has received two awards from Berklee, the "Toshiko Akiyoshi Award" and the "Woodwind Department Achievement Award" in recognition of outstanding performance and composition abilities. She appeared in some Jazz Festivals including the JVC Jazz Festival.
- After graduated from Berklee, she moved to New York City, she played many gigs, offered compositions/arrangements for various styles of bands, instructed from teenagers to elderly people in both New York and the Boston area.
